The Jump for George Game

The ‘Jump for George' incentive game is a fun way to reward your students who reaching a certain sales goal. Students win money based upon how many dollar bills they are able to broad jump past

Determine how many items that students will need to sell to qualify

  • Make sure and set this number high enough so that roughly 8-15 students will qualify. A good number to use might be 25 items. Remember, this is a special privilege so you do not want too many students to qualify but rather you want them to have to work harder to earn it. Also, if too many students qualify, you will be paying out a lot more money so make sure that you get your money’s worth out of your investment. On the other hand, if you set the goal too high, no one will want to try for it at all
  • Plan to have a special award ceremony. Make sure that everyone in the school gets to see those who qualify. By having everyone watch, you are accomplishing two things: 1.) You are acknowledging those students who reached the goal in front of their peers and 2.) You will receive free advertising for the next time that you do a school fundraiser because those that only get to watch this time may be motivated to try for it the next time. You might even consider picking a student from the audience during your kickoff to do it as a preview in order to get everyone excited about what they can win

Plan to set up before everyone arrives
If you do not already have a starting line, place about 4 feet of masking tape on the floor. Then line up about 25 one dollar bills end to end starting at one side of the line or tape. If you want, mix in some $5’s, $10’s and even higher bills to add excitement (Make sure and place the larger bills towards the end). Make sure that you place these bills a little further down. Keep in mind that your younger students may not be able to jump as far so if they end up selling more then you will want to place the larger bills closer to the starting point. In other words, make sure you know whose jumping before your event! Also, make sure that you approximate how much money you will need to give away based upon how many qualifiers you have as well as where you place the larger bills.

Have each student who qualifies come up to the front
Before each person jumps you will want to announce their name and how much money they raised. You might even want to have them jump in order of lowest to highest seller thus saving the best for last. Once you are ready to start, line each student who qualifies beside the dollar bills and reward them based upon how many dollar bills they are able to completely clear and broad jump past

PLEASE NOTE: You also have the option of providing gift cards in place of cash
